Beamforming Method: Suppression of Spatial Aliasing Using Moving Arrays
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the scientific and industrial community a growing interest is nowadays devoted to sound source localization techniques. Among all the existing methods, the use of the beamforming algorithm in sound source localization problems is increasing, thanks to its many advantages if compared to the other available methods (Nearfield Acoustic Holography and Helmholtz Equation Least Square Method). The beamforming limits are well known and deeply investigated in literature and the study of possible solutions to overcome these limitations is a key point. The present paper deals with the spatial aliasing problem and proposes an innovative approach to improve the method performances. The spatial aliasing phenomenon causes the appearance of “ghost sources” in the reconstructed images. An innovative solution based on the use of moving microphone arrays is here proposed. The array motion, multiplying the measurement points, allows to reduce the aliasing errors. This paper presents the theoretical background of the innovative method and the results obtained with numerical simulations, in comparison with the traditional “Delay & Sum” method. The influence of some parameters, such as the array speed, and the geometry are investigated and a first experimental validation is given. 2 Berlin Beamforming Conference, 2008 A. Cigada, M. Adaptive beamforming in row-column addressed arrays for 3D ultrasound imaging
In recent years, to reduce the complexity of implementation, the use of 2D arrays with restricted row-column addressing has been considered for 3D ultrasound imaging. In this paper, two methods of adaptive beamforming based on the minimum variance method are represented in such a way that the computational load is much less than using the full adaptive beamforming method. In both proposed metho...

This paper proposes a new smart antenna beamforming scheme based on electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR). The proposed method is capable of providing better capacity compared to the conventional ESPAR. The termination of each antenna element in this structure comprises a PIN diode in addition to a varactor. Using PIN diode besides the varactor provides more degrees of freed...
متن کاملBlind Source Separation Based on Time-Frequency Sparseness in the Presence of Spatial Aliasing
In this paper, we propose a novel method for blind source separation (BSS) based on time-frequency sparseness (TF) that can estimate the number of sources and time-frequency masks, even if the spatial aliasing problem exists. Many previous approaches, such as degenerate unmixing estimation technique (DUET) or observation vector clustering (OVC), are limited to microphone arrays of small spatial...
متن کاملImproving the Efficiency of DAMAS for Sound Source Localization via Wavelet Compression Computational Grid
Phased microphone arrays are used widely in the applications for acoustic source localization. Deconvolution approaches such as DAMAS successfully overcome the spatial resolution limit of the conventional delay-and-sum (DAS) beamforming method. However deconvolution approaches require high computational effort compared to conventional DAS beamforming method. This paper presents a novel method t...
متن کاملBeamforming Arrays with Many Sensors: The Aggregate Beamformer
The aggregate beamformer is an alternative beamforming technique that uses the properties of randomly sampled signals to simplify beamforming for arrays with many elements. One advantage of the technique is the ability to exclude anti-alias filters even when signals from multiple channels are multiplexed into a single analog to digital converter. Another is the ability to perform base-band proc...
